Am I Ready for Therapy?

Therapy can be a big commitment, so it's important to assess if you're in a place emotionally where therapy could help. Signs that therapy may be right for you include feeling persistently unhappy or anxious, dealing with a difficult life event like loss or trauma, or struggling with personal relationships. Therapy provides a confidential space to work through challenges with a professional.

What Can I Expect From Therapy?

Every therapist and therapeutic approach is different, but most therapy involves regularly meeting one-on-one or in a small group with a licensed counselor or therapist. Discussing your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships and life experiences openly is encouraged. Your therapist will work with you to better understand yourself and your challenges, and develop practical coping strategies for improved wellbeing and relationships. Progress happens gradually over multiple sessions through building self-awareness and skills.

Is Now a Good Time?

If you've considered the signs that therapy could help and feel ready to focus on personal growth, then making that first appointment is a great step. Discussing concerns with loved ones may also help determine if now is the right time commitmentwise. Your therapist can help determine if they're the best fit and the modality the best approach. Taking that brave step shows self-care and getting help is a strength, not a weakness.
