Where Glendale couples get stuck

Most couples I see aren't in crisis every day. They're worn down by a pattern they can't seem to break, often with work, children and extended family all pulling at them at once.

  • Small disagreements that turn into days of silence
  • Different family expectations pulling you apart
  • Running a household instead of being a couple
  • One of you is unsure whether to stay
  • Trust that's been broken

Why couples from Glendale choose me

  1. Close enough to come in person, with online sessions anywhere in California when that's easier.
  2. Culturally aware. I ask about your family and background instead of assuming.
  3. We work on the pattern underneath the fight, and you leave with something to practice at home.

A couples therapist a short drive from Glendale

If you’re searching for a couples therapist in Glendale, my office is close by. I work in Highland Park, just past Eagle Rock, so many Glendale couples come in person. Others prefer to meet online, and some do a bit of both. I see couples in person in Highland Park and online anywhere in California, so you can choose what suits your week.

My name is Tina Marie Del Rosario. I’m a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and I’ve spent more than 13 years working with couples and individuals. Alongside my practice I’m a college instructor and a clinical supervisor, which means part of my job is training other therapists. I run a solo practice. There’s no handoff to an associate: you work with me from the first call on.

Marriage counseling and couples therapy, close to Glendale

People search for marriage counseling and couples therapy as if they were two different things. In my practice they’re the same work, and you don’t need to be married to do it. I see newly engaged couples, partners who have been together for decades, couples raising young children, blended families, and couples where one person is ready to fight for the relationship and the other isn’t sure anymore.

The details differ, but the shape is familiar. A small comment about who forgot to call the plumber turns into a two-day cold war. One of you pursues, the other withdraws, and both of you feel alone. Or you’ve become efficient co-managers of a household and stopped being a couple somewhere along the way.

Families, cultures and generations

Glendale has a large Armenian-American community, along with families from many other backgrounds. I work with couples and families across cultures and generations, and I don’t assume anything about you from where you live or where your family comes from. I ask.

Culture shapes a relationship in ways that are easy to miss until they collide. Partners can grow up with different rules about how loudly a family argues, who makes the decisions, how much parents get a say, and what love is supposed to look like day to day. An adult child may be trying to honor their parents while building a life that looks different from the one their parents imagined. I’m a biracial therapist, and I know from my own life how much of this lives below the surface.

Because relationship work is for two or more people, I also see adult family members together: a mother and adult daughter, adult siblings, a parent and grown child who want to stop having the same painful conversation. My family therapy page explains how that works. I work with adults only, so if the concern is a teenager, I can point you toward an adolescent or family specialist and support you as the parent.

When you’re not sure whether to stay

Some couples arrive with one foot out the door. If one of you is leaning out and the other is leaning in, regular couples therapy can stall, because you aren’t working toward the same goal yet. Discernment counseling is a short, structured process, developed by William Doherty, to help you get clear about the direction before deciding anything. The first session is two hours ($450), and follow-ups are 90 minutes ($325).

How the work goes

A lot of people tell me they’ve had couples counseling before. It helped them talk more politely, and the pattern came back anyway. That’s because a pattern isn’t only a communication habit. It’s two nervous systems (the body’s built-in alarm and settling responses) reacting to each other faster than either person can think.

In our sessions, I catch the cycle as it shows up between you. We pause right there, find what each of you was feeling a second before you snapped or shut down, and practice a different response while I help keep things steady. I draw on PACT, Imago, attachment-based work, interpersonal neurobiology, the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I won’t take sides. Before joint work, I sometimes meet with each partner individually, and I don’t hold secrets from one partner on behalf of the other.

The goal is change you notice at home: a disagreement that ends in a repair instead of a silent evening, a hard topic you can raise without bracing for impact. Read more about couples therapy with me, or about couples intensives if you’d like three or six hours of focused time.
